Peru is awarded for Machu Picchu and its gastronomy by World Travel Awards

Peru received three awards in the global edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2022 that distinguish it as best culinary destination, best cultural destination, and best tourist attraction for the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, reported Friday the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (Promperu).

The varied Peruvian gastronomy has granted the country the award as the leading culinary destination in the world in 2022, for the tenth time, which in the opinion of Promperu brings Peru closer to the goal of «positioning Peruvian gastronomy as the best in the world».

Peru also won, for the fourth time, the award for leading cultural destination in the world, and the archaeological park of Machu Picchu, located in the southern region of Cuzco, was ratified as the world’s leading tourist attraction for the fifth time.

The executive president of Promperu, Amora Carbajal, commented, in a press release, that «these awards are an important recognition for the work of all Peruvians».

«Knowing that our country is a destination that stands out in the world, with a rich culture and cuisine that are increasingly valued and appreciated by international travelers, fills us with satisfaction and encourages us to continue working to promote Peru’s attractive and diverse tourism offer,» said Carbajal.

In addition to the WTA’s global awards, Peru also received awards from the same organization in South America in the same three categories.

Likewise, last October, National Geographic magazine included Peru among the best destinations to visit in 2023 and placed the archeological site of Choquequirao (cradle of gold in Quechua), also in Cuzco, as one of the five must-see adventure destinations.
